Google Integrates Android OS Into Car Dashboards

Google is now working closely with a range of leading car manufacturers including; Honda, Audi and Hyundai with a view to integrate its Android operating system into their car dashboards.

What this means to the end-user (or driver) is that it would allow a range of Android apps and also music to seamlessly work with onboard car systems. Rival company ‘Apple’ has already established itself in this market with already agreed deals with GM, BMW and Honda. Additionally, Google revealed that it would be forming the Open Automotive Alliance with a goal of speeding up innovation in the car industry.

“Millions of people already bring Android phones and tablets into their cars, but it’s not yet a driving-optimised experience,” said Patrick Brady, director of Android engineering.

“Wouldn’t it be great if you could bring your favourite apps and music with you and use them safely with your car’s built-in controls and in-dash display?” he added.

It is anticipated that Audi and Google will be revealing their new in-car technology at this week’s CES show in Las Vegas.
